This is a question regularly asked by our stone customers in the New Jersey and New York City areas, and depending on the level of regular care you give to your granite or marble counters, the answer may vary! Granite and marble countertops are more porous than quartz countertop, and therefore require regular maintenance. Some of our customers have standing appointments to seal their granite countertops once a year and others call us when it’s needed. One thing to remember about natural stone is that it can never be oversealed, so if you’re unsure, err on the side of caution and call us to schedule an appointment today!
To test your countertops and see if they require resealing, you can perform the following test.
Pour a few drops of water directly on top of your granite or marble counters in various spots. Note the time, and wait 15-30 minutes. If the water remains on the surface of the countertop, they are sealed and protected! If the marble or granite darkens and the water has disappeared, the water was absorbed by the stone and it’s time to reseal your counter.
There are many easy ways to protect your natural stone counters to prolong the life of your sealant from wiping up spills quickly, to using cutting boards and hot plates when cooking and serving food. Whether it’s been 6 months or 6 years from your last re-sealing appointment, Fundamental Cleaning can get your counters shining like new. Call us at 732-822-7369 for your free quote today!
